Robert Frohn "Daemon"

Someone that knows that I collect adjustables contacted me and pointed me to this razor on auction. Before the auction, I had never heard of it and GGoogle has brought up nothing except this one.

Its obviously a travel set, I doubt that the brush has been used and there is no soap in the other cylinder. It came with two Rotbart blades but I'm guessing that they are not be original - you will see why a bit further down. A fold-up mirror and instruction leaflet completed the package. Everything is in excellent condition.

Onto the razor itself.
That handle screams "I'm German" and the adjustment mechanism is unlike anything that I've seen before. It is two T-pieces of spring steel that attach the center of the botton plate to the safety bars. As you tighten up the handle it pushes the center of the bottom plate up. That in turn changes the angle of the blade AND pushes the safety bars outwards, opening up the blade gap.

The prices in the leaflet are in Reichsmarks which were used between 1924 and 1948.

How does it shave?
Its an extremely mild shaver, actually too mild for my personal preferences.

(Rough) Translation of the Pamphlet/Instructions.

Yes, we would like to hear your view sometime. As you are a self-shaver and you will appreciate the advantages of our new All-metal Razor "Daemon".
With previous razors, the cutting angle was always the same because of the the rigid design of the razor head, the "Daemon" can be used with any desired and required cutting angle without the razor blade fluttering as before. The Illustration 1 shows you the open apparatus with the blade resting straight on top. By tightening the handle the blade more and more into the curved cover plate the blade never flutters, as the spring-loaded protective plate ensures a firm grip. The "scratching" is completely eliminated with this new construction and a particularly pleasant and gentle shave is guaranteed. Of course, a precision razor like this also needs a blade of the renowned quality of the ",Hammer-and-Pincer-Gold" razor blades 0.08 mm, paper-thin. The prices for these are reduced by 10% to make it possible for an even larger number of customers to use this uniform quality blade.
