Global Shave Club was a company based in Montreal, Canada who released a few different homages of well known Gillette razors. There were quality issues with all of their releases and I guess that with all the bad publicity going around, their reputation finally caught up with them and at the time of writing this (December 2025) it seems like they are no longer in business.

The earliest reference to the Fat Guy that I can find is 17 February 2020 when they announced that they were taking pre-orders for a 195 FatBoy replica. The plan was to start shipping in August 2020. There wasn't any formal crowdfunding campaign and it seems that the pitch was done entirely through Shaving forums and the like, with the price for the first 300 at $89 and thereafter the price was going to jump to $149. From what I could see online is that the first ones started arriving five months late.
I also read that the parts were made in India and the razor was assembled in "North America" so I would guess Canada.

The Instructions say: With the head unlocked, turn the adjustment dial to your desired blade gap. Lock the head by turning the knob past the closed position and the blade gap will change.

In May of 2020, they announced that they would be doing a Gillette Toggle copy which never materialised.

How does it shave?
It shaves pretty much like a FatBoy but about 1 setting milder, so - a mild to early medium shaver, and like a FatBoy, I'm guessing that I will prefer it with new or newish blades.

FatGuy vs FatBoy - The differences

My first impression on opening the box was "WOW, this is bright". Once I started handling it a bit, it just doesn't feel as well built as a FatBoy. This one isn't bad per se, however its not quite there...... Generally things are a bit looser, the clicks are not as defined, fitting isn't as good, the doors stand a wee bit proud when fully closed and the chrome plating adds a bit of roundness to the knurling and numbering.

On the positive side, it does have the "Quarter" turn and the chrome is probably a tougher finish than nickel. They also have the head "area" dimensions spot on, including the little ridges on the safety bars. Looking inside the head, the recess in both are the elongated and rounded diamond.
We know that the Gillette FatBoy is mostly brass and we also know that in weight by volume, Zinc is around 80% that of Brass. Looking at the weight difference between them, it is very likely that this is cast Zinc (Zamak).

The knurling on the FatGuy is coarser than the FatBoy's and as can be seen in the image above it completely covers the twist knob, while the knurling on the twist knob of the FatBoy stops about ¾ of the way up.

The immediate thing that I felt when I shaved with it the first time is the weight difference, which really surprised me as I don't use my FatBoys much.

At the going price of around US$75, and if I was going to use it regularly, I personally would rather buy a used FatBoy.
