Serial Toggle 2474 Repair

This is one of two Serial Toggles from a repair shop and my fourth (including my own) repair. As with the previous two toggles, the first image shows what I received as I received it.

This has been replated and is nice and shiny. I could immediately see that the little spring that causes the clicks was missing and the aluminium ring that limits the adjustment dial was badly corroded. I knew that I was going to have to make the little spring but thought that I may get away with not making the adjuster limit ring.
The little sping took six attempts, on the first five as I bent it - it snapped. 🤦

Once I had the little spring, it was time to try and get this back together. I assembled it and fitted the adjuster limiting ring and not really surprisingly it didn't work! I had to make a new one.
I knew that it was a time consuming job because I had to make one for MINE. I first turned an oversized washer and then hand filed away the pieces that I didn't want. I started with the inside. It needs a little protrusion that catches on the spline. Once thats done and fitted the outside diameter needs to be filed, leaving the little "bump". The little bump needs to be left a bit oversize so that it can be finely tuned to stop the adjuster at 1 and at 5.

The picture on the left below shows the "corroded" original piece with a screwdriver pointing at the limiting bump. Next to it is the new brass piece and underneath that is the little spring. The picture on the right shows everything ready to be re-assembled. This time I added the fresh paint before I re-assembled everything.

Finally I had everything together, working like it should. This ones opens and closes more smoothly than all the other three and I'm guessing that is the new plating at work.
Serial Toggle 2474 back in service.

That left one outstanding piece of business - How does it shave.
This is the mildest of them all, again I'm guessing that the new plating has something to do with that.
