The Unicorns
I found that as my collection grew, a few things started to happen.
There is less and less coming up for sale that fits into the collection and the "interest" starts to wane.
I considered adding another theme, but after much thought - I rejected that idea.
I tended to forget the really rare and awesome adjustable razors that I am already a custodian of.
I made this page to remind me that I'm truely priveledged to have these razors in my collection.
I've listed them alphabetically.... (Clicking on the images will take you to the page)
Apollo Mikron 1 - Black Handle

Why it's rare: The black handle.
Apollo Mikron 1 are already considered unicorns, however this was the first one that I've seen that has a Black Plastic Handle. At first when I saw it I thought that the handle was not for the razor but a second has been found since.
Darwin Popular

Why it's rare: I actually have no idea, but it is!
The ornate Darwins are not rare at all. At any one time there are a few for sale but the Popular is rarely found. A popular theory is that they were not ornate and probably got thrown away after a while.
Gillette Serial Toggle

Why it's rare: They were sold in limited numbers initially.
Gillette never made razors for profit, the profit was in the blades that they sold and as a result of this the razor itself was "disposable". As collectors we are aware of just over 30 of these out there.
Hol Pif / Le Supreme transitional
![]() |
![]() |
Why it's rare: This is the only one that I've ever seen.
Nobody knows exactly what this is. It was sold as a Le Supreme but is more of a Hol Pif and best guess was that its some sort of transitional razor.
Ikon SBS

Why it's rare: Limited quanties were made.
I believe that the first batch was 100 and Rockwell issued a cease and desist order to stop the sale of them. Most were sold as only the head. I would consider this a modern unicorn.
Janus Toggle

Why it's rare: A very limited quantity was made.
There were only 51 of these manufactured. 50 went out for sale and one was kept by Eric the designer. I've read on various forums that this project took so much out of him that he isn't interested in making any more.
This is a true Modern Unicorn.
Robert Frohn Daemon

Why it's rare: I'm really not completely sure if it is a unicorn bit it's the only one that I have ever seen. If anyone knows different, please let me know.
Rocnel Sailors

![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
Why are they rare: Most of the early and Masterclass Rocnels were limited runs of around 100 or less razors. If we look at most of the vintage unicorns, thay had runs that exceeded that number.
A Unicorn does not have to be vintage to qualify as a Unicorn.
Schick Krona Adjustable

Why it's rare: It was a Prototype and never sold. If memory serves me correctly only five have found their way into collectors hands.
Walbusch B5 - Silver and White
![]() |
![]() |
Why it's rare: The Black/Silver versions are somewhat rare but a few come up for sale every year - these don't. I've only seen two come up for sale, strangely within a few months of each other
There is also a White / Gold version.
